Poverty and Hunger - Ending it in Tennessee
While the U.S. has made strides in poverty reduction, the impact on Americans is widespread and harsh. According to USDA 34 million people are food insecure including 9 million children. In Tennessee, over 809,000 people face hunger and 234,000 of those experiencing hunger are children. Tennessee’s child poverty rate is 20%, placing it in the top ten of states with the worst poverty rate. Join us to learn about organizations across the state that are addressing poverty and working to improve access to programs like SNAP, WIC and child nutrition. There is more that can be done to end poverty hunger in Tennessee. We will share steps that individuals and organizations can take to address this important issue.
